Basic symbols

This symbol is used to represent all types of control valve, and both pneumatic and electric actuators. [Pg.195]

The direction of the arrow shows the position of the valve on failure of the power supply. [Pg.195]

Locally mounted means that the controller and display is located out on the plant near to the sensing instrument location. Main panel means that they are located on a panel in the control room. Except on small plants, most controllers would be mounted in the control room. [Pg.196]

This is indicated on the circle representing the instrument-controller by a letter code (see Table 5.1). [Pg.196]

In equations, symbols are used to show the physical states of the reactants and products. Reactants and products can exist as sohds, liquids, and gases. When they are dissolved in water, they are said to he aqueous. It is important to show the physical states of a reaction s reactants and products in an equation because the physical states provide clues about how the reaction occurs. Some basic symbols used in equations are shown in Table 10-1. [Pg.279]

Humans, capable of communicating via symbols, can easily experience the operation of this mechanism. Each letter, a basic symbol of communication, is by itself a chain of ICRs fixed forever in the brain when reading/writing was learned. Each word is a much more complicated chain of ICRs based on the special sequence of letters. A sentence is an acquired-drive-induced goal oriented function that uses words as tools. [Pg.57]

The first rule designates a set of basic symbols (Table I). All molecules are represented as hydrogen-suppressed, and single bonds are assumed by default. For example, CO assumes a single bond between the carbon and oxygen, and C-0 indicates a double bond. The bond between two lowercase symbols is aromatic. [Pg.99]

The I Ching (also known as the Book of Changes) is a representative work on Chinese classical philosophy, which is regarded as one of the most far-reaching classics influences Chinese culture. Since Han Dynasty, I Ching has been revered as the First of all classics, which contains fruits of Chinese wisdom and culture precipitated for more than five thousand years. The basic symbols in I Ching are an unbroken Hne (—) to represent Yang Yao, and a... [Pg.753]

Even though the basic symbols are the same, there are vety distinct differences between the fault trees discussed in this chapter and fault tree analysis, the analytical technique discussed in Chapter 15. [Pg.114]
