Strontium barium titanate

Barium strontium titanate, abbreviated as Ba cSri- TiOs (BST), is the solid solution of BaTiOs and SrTiOs. 

An original sol-gel process for preparing the (Ba, Sr)TiOs was presented by Yang et al. [101]. The reagent grade barium acetate (Ba(CHsCOO)), strontium acetate (Sr(CHsCOO)2), and tetrabutyl titanate (Ti(OC4H9)4) as raw materials, acetic acid and alcohol as solvents, and small amounts of acetylacetone (CH3COCH2COCH3) and acetic acid are added. The sol is relatively stable and becomes a gel in a few days. 

As a comparison, the conventional process for the preparation of the (Ba, Sr) TiOs ceramics is as follows the reagent grade BaCOs, SrCOs, and Ti02 powders are used as raw materials and these powders are mixed in the desired stoichiometry and milled for 10 h. The powders are calcined in a muffle furnace at 1100 °C for 2 h.

Additional work on dielectrics includes deposition of silica, PABS (lead aluminum boron silicates), PLZT (lead lanthanum zirconium titanate) and BST (barium strontium titanate) on Si-Ti-Pt wafers (Figure 2). The wafer specimens were patterned with metal electrodes and electronic properties were characterized.
