Barium fluorosilicate

The use of barium fluorosilicate and carbonate as insecticides (Beliles 1979 Meister 1989) might also contribute to the presence of barium in agricultural soils. [Pg.78]

Natural barium sulfate or barite is widely distributed in nature. It also contains silica, ferric oxide and fluoride impurities. Silica is the prime impurity which may be removed as sodium fluorosilicate by treatment with hydrofluoric acid followed by caustic soda. [Pg.92]

The substoichiometric precipitation of fluorine has been examined with lanthanum fluoride. Fluoride ion labeled with is precipitated substoichiometrically with lanthanum as shown in Fig. 2. Fluorosilicate is also precipitated substoichiometrically. This procedure was ajqilied for the determination of oxygen in silicon crystals The nuclear reaction used is Li(n, a)t, 0(t, n) F. Upon irradiation of the test and standard samples in a nuclear reactor, the samples are dissolved. After addition of NaF, some of the fluoride is precipitated with a substoichiometric amount of lanthanum. By comparing the activity of the substoichiometric precipitates for standard and test samples, oxygen content can be calculated by Eq. 2. The substoichiometric precipitation of barium with sulfate was studied and aj lied to the determination of traces of uranium, where Ba, produced by nuclear fission of was used After irradiation of test and standard samples, barium carrier is added. Barium is preliminary separated as barium carbonate, then dissolved in HCl. Precipitation of barium with a substoichiometric amount of sulfate is reproducible over a wide range of pH values. Uranium content can be determined from the radioactivities of the substoichiometric precipitates from the test and standard samples. [Pg.40]

Many other metal compounds exist including the following often toxic examples barium compounds, eg., barium bromide beryllium compounds, eg., beryllium hydroxide cadmium compounds, e.g., cadmium iodide copper compounds like copper hydroxide, used as a pigment, in paper manufacturing, and as a pesticide lead compounds, like the soluble lead fluorosilicate thallium compounds, e.g., thallium sulphide and vanadium compounds, e.g., vanadium dichloride. [Pg.156]
