Bag-valve mask

It should also be noted that mouth to mouth breathing should be avoided. It is possible for the rescuer to become contaminated via ingestion, inhalation or absorption while administering mouth to mouth resuscitation. A bag valve mask or positive pressure oxygen unit should be used to ventilate the victim. [Pg.7]

Use non-rebreather mask or bag-valve-mask to protect airway. [Pg.514]

Assist breathing manually with a bag-valve-mask device or bag-valve-endotracheal tube device until the mechanical ventilator is ready for use. [Pg.7]

The use of propofol to provide safe procedural sedation in the emergency department is again reported [72 ]. A retrospective review of 215 adult patients receiving propofol procedural sedation between June 2005 and December 2010 reported adverse event rate occurring in 10/215 (4.65%) patients with the most frequent events being hypotension in 5/215 (2.33%). Brief hypoxia occurred in 3/215 (1.4%) patients, two patients (0.93%) required airway opening manoeuvres, and two patients (0.93%) required bag valve mask assisted ventilation. [Pg.155]

The bag-valve mask (BVM) device (Fig. 8.2) is the most commonly used primary emergency ventilation option around the world. It appears to offer simplicity and rapidity as an option. Ventilation of this type originated in the anaesthetic rooms of operating theatres where it is used to ensure oxygenation on a patient, shortly after induction of general anaesthesia before intubation. In this situation (often where... [Pg.144]

Apply artificial resuscitation if the victim is not breathing. For personal safety do not perform a mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but instead, use a bag valve mask to revive the victim. [Pg.110]

Initially bag valve and mask ventilation is appropriate, but as soon as possible intubation will be required. The presence of other injuries may mandate a surgical airway. [Pg.121]

The TO 6 type got two separate gas jet pumps, one for each measuring range and an el. magn valve. A range selector does the same as the flow selector of the modified TO 4 type. The second stream is lead to an additional sniffing port which can be used by the panel leader. A port selector brings the main stream to one of four sniffing ports (masks), installed in four separate boxes. This equipment has been set up in a caravan. To set it vertical it is mounted to a ball and socket. Four panelists can take place in front of their masks A sample bag can directly be connected to the olfactometer. The delay between... [Pg.104]

The M17 chemical and biological protective mask assembly includes the mask, the M15A1 carrier, two lens outserts, and the Ml waterproofing bag. It is made of molded rubber with filter elements in each cheek, plastic eye lenses, and a voice emitter outlet valve in the front. The A1 and A2 models include the capability to drink water while masked. The mask protects the wearer s face, eyes, and respiratory tract against field concentrations of CB agents. The M40 Protective Mask is replacing the M17 Mask. See FM 3-5 for filter exchange rates. [Pg.257]

There are numerous mechanical devices, including sophisticated ventilators, that can be used to provide ventilatory assistance in an apneic casualty. None of these is available to the soldier or his buddy, and only a few—the mask-valve-bag venti-... [Pg.158]

Possibly the most critical factor in treatment of severely exposed casualties is restoration of oxygenation. Atropine alone might restore spontaneous breathing in a small number of apneic individuals. Ideally, an apparatus that delivers oxygen under positive pressure will be available. Even an RDIC or a mask-valve-bag apparatus used with ambient air will provide some assistance. [Pg.169]
