Toothpicks obtainable from Boots Chemists (U.K.) but may be locally difficult to obtain. Ensure that they do not contain added bacteriocidal agents. (Sterilized pasteur pipettes are equally suitable as a way of stabbing out plaques from culture plates). 

Certain chemical substances cause a concentration-dependent inhibition of G.In bacteriology, these are classified as bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal substances. Bacteriostatic agents inhibit growth, but growth resumes after their removal. A bacteriocidal agent (or bacteriocide) kills the bacterium. The underlying mechanisms of G. inhibition are many and varied, depending on the inhibitor. 

Produced by Strepiotnyces fiadsae orally administered bacteriocidal agent used as adjunct to other therapies of bowel problems also used in combination topical ointment formulation. 

Although plastics are usually immune to bacterial attacks there is an exception in the case of plasticised PVC where the plasticiser is susceptible to such attack. The majority of bacteriocidal agents used in polymer formulations are quarternary ammonium compounds.
