The work of Burt and Edgar is discussed in the report for 1919-20 of the International Committee on Atomic Weights, Trans. Chem. Soc., 1919, 115, 880. Taking into account the researches of Morley, Noyes, and others upon the synthesis and analysis of water, the Committee considers the most probable general mean for the atomic weight of hydrogen to be 1-0078, and the approximate value 1-008 to be most suitable for ordinary use. [Pg.50]

To place this argument in perspective assume that both trans and cis adducts were equally likely. Then stereoselectivity would not be observed. All of the adducts to base atoms listed in Table XII for trans addition correspond to the sterically forbidden possibilities for cis addition and vice versa.
