Asphalt combination coatings

A composite asphaltic mastic filled with high-density aggregate is now available as a combined insulation and weight coating, and this could be the development area in this field. [Pg.668]

Generally, systems developed in the USA favour a combination of polyethylene with either butyl-rubber or hot-applied mastic adhesives, the latter consisting of a blend of rubber, asphalt and high molecular weight resins. In European and Far East coating plants, epoxy type primers and hard ethylene copolymer adhesives have been successfully employed. [Pg.671]

Maintenance difficulties encountered with floors and roofs should be given particular attention in a structural design. Concrete floors are used extensively in the process industries, and special cements and coatings are available which make the floors resistant to heat or chemical attack. Flat roofs are often specified for industrial structures. Felt saturated with coal-tar pitch combined with a coal-tar pitch-gravel finish is satisfactory for roofs of this type. Asphalt-saturated felt may be used if the roof has a slope of more than jin./ft (4.17 cm/m). [Pg.100]

Bituminous emulsions are produced by emulsifying an asphalt or coal tar in water using suitable combinations of surfactants along with colloidal clays. After application as coatings, with subsequent evaporation of water, the emulsified bituminous particles coalesce to form a continuous film. Being waterbased, such systems have the potential to comply with VOC regulations. [Pg.38]
