The ontologies field is a direct descendant of the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning work done within the Artificial Intelligence community over the last several decades. There is not sufficient space in this chapter to provide a complete history of knowledge representation however, some key points will give context to the current state of ontologies. [Pg.455]
