Arteriosclerosis obliterans

Peripheral vasodilating drugs are chiefly used in the treatment of peripheral vascular diseases, such as arteriosclerosis obliterans, Raynaud s phenomenon, and spastic peripheral vascular disorders. Short-term use is rarely beneficial or permanent. Improvement, if it occurs, takes place gradually during weeks of therapy. [Pg.389]

Technetium-labelled lipid microspheres were given to patients with ASO (arteriosclerosis obliterans) by intravenous injection, followed by scintigraphy. Technetium accumulated at the sites corresponding to the atherosclerotic lesions (5). [Pg.267]

Vitamin E is the common name for o-a-tocopherol and is an oily liquid at room temperature and is also an antioxidant. Alfacalcidol, a dehydroxy derivative of calcitriol, is formulated as a solution in a mixture of sesame oil and a-tocopherol in 0.25 pg, 0.5 pg, and 1.0 pg One-Alpha soft gelatin capsules. Ethyl icosapen-tate is used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia and arteriosclerosis obliterans, and exists as a liquid at ambient room temperature that is formulated as a solution in a-tocopherol in 300 mg Epadel soft gelatin capsules. [Pg.3348]

The effects of PGI2 on microcirculation, local redistribution of blood and on arterial anastomoses also have to be taken into account, in addition to the antiplatelet, fibrinolytic [158], cytoprotective [243,245] and oxygen-sparing [246] actions of PGIj. All these effects may contribute to the beneficial effects of PGI2 in myocardial ischaemia [243,244] as well as in ischaemia associated with arteriosclerosis obliterans [160,247], Raynaud s syndrome [248], retinal vein occlusion [249], white stroke [250], endotoxic [251,252] and traumatic [253,254] shocks. [Pg.113]

An increase in the duration of activity of nicotinic acid and a diminution in some of its undesirable side effects were partially achieved by esterification with selected alcohols. Upon hydrolysis by esterases the alcohol component could contribute its own therapeutic effect. Thus, acylation of the polyalcohol myoinositol, (mesoinositol) with nicotinic acid afforded the ester (V). Mesoinositol hexanicotinate (V) reduced blood cholesterol levels in the hypercholesterolemic individual but not in normal subjects [57]. In addition, patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans showed an increase in walking ability after oral therapy with mesoinositol hexanicotinate [58]. A considerable portion of the C-labeled ester (V) circulated unchanged in the blood of the cat [59]. [Pg.227]
