Although a few simple hydrides were known before the twentieth century, the field of hydride chemistry did not become active until around the time of World War II. Commerce in hydrides began in 1937 when Metal Hydrides Inc. used calcium hydride [7789-78-8J, CaH2, to produce transition-metal powders. After World War II, lithium aluminum hydride [16853-85-3] LiAlH, and sodium borohydride [16940-66-2] NaBH, gained rapid acceptance in organic synthesis. Commercial appHcations of hydrides have continued to grow, such that hydrides have become important industrial chemicals manufactured and used on a large scale.

Both classes of Operating Module usually need one or more input time series and produce one or more output time series (eg. outflow of water and constituents). From experience, the designers of HSPF knew that much of the effort in using continuous simulation models is associated with time series manipulations. Thus, a sophisticated Time Series Management System was included. Abstract A relatively small number of mammalian pheromones has been identified, in contrast to a plethora of known insect pheromones, but two remarkable Asian elephant/insect pheromonal linkages have been elucidated, namely, (Z)-7-dodecen-1-yl acetate and frontalin. In addition, behavioral bioassays have demonstrated the presence of a chemical signal in the urine of female African elephants around the time of ovulation. Our search for possible ovulatory pheromones in the headspace over female African elephant urine has revealed for the first time the presence of a number of known insect pheromones. This search has been facilitated by the use of a powerful new analytical technique, automated solid phase dynamic extraction (SPDE)/GC-MS, as well as by novel macros for enhanced and rapid comparison of multiple mass spectral data files from Agilent ChemStation . This chapter will focus on our methodologies and results, as well as on a comparison of SPDE and the more established techniques of solid phase microextraction (SPME) and stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE).

We have also considered the effect of increasing the number of optimally located samples on the final estimate. In this case, we start with the optimal minimum set and increase by one (optimally located) the number of samples. Figure 1 shows the results for different values of M = 6,12,20. As expected, the quality of the estimate is better when the number of optimally located samples is increased. However, after a few optimally located samples, the quality of the estimate does not improve significantly. Table 1 shows the corresponding optimal samples for different values of M and for different numbers of optimally located samples. Olfactoiy thresholds also vary with the ovarian cycle.
