Flavonoid sulphates such as quercetin 3,7-di-O-methyl 3-sulphate and kaempferol 7-0-methyl 3-sulphate, which inhihited the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Klebsiella pneumoniae, were isolated from the -hutanol fraction of 80% methanol extract of Argyreia speciosa (Burm. f) Boj. (Convolvulaceae), while flavonoids with mti-Helicobacter pylori activity, such as quercetin 3-methyl ether (isorhamnetin) (Fig. 3), were isolated from Cistus laurifolius L. (Cistaceae). ... [Pg.448]

Ergine, molecular formula C16H17N3O, is the amide of D-lysergic acid, and commonly known as LSA or LA-111. It is an ergoline alkaloid that occurs in various species of the Convolvulaceae, and in some species of fungus. Rivea corymbosa (ololiuqui), Argyreia nervosa (Hawaiian baby woodrose) and Ipomoea violacea (tlitliltzin) are three major sources of this alkaloid. [Pg.298]

Fourteen species of Argyreia and two plants of closely related genera were shown to contain ergoline type of alkaloids twenty-one of which were identified. Argyreia nervosa Boj. previously investigated had already yielded most of these (13). [Pg.267]

Convolvulaceae is a widely distributed family of plants. I would suggest readers pick up a copy of The Botany and Chemistry of Hallucinogens and also Pharmacotheon for a more detailed look at Convolvulaceae history and constituents. The seeds of various species (Argyreia, Ipomoea, Stictocardia, and Cuscuta) have been analyzed to contain ergolines ... [Pg.107]

Hawaiian Baby Woodrose Argyreia nervosa) also called woolly wood roses are beautiful vines that grow in Hawaii, Mexico, and the southern parts of Texas, California and Florida. The plant is believed to originate from India. The Hindus used the roots in the treatment of inflammatory disease. The alkaloid constituents of seeds range from a low of 0.5% to a high of 0.9%. Ergine and isoergine make up approximately 54% of the total alkaloids. [Pg.108]
