Argention

Siher(Il) oxide, AgO, is a black solid, Ag Ag 02, obtained by anodic or persulphate oxidation of an AgNOs solution. Continued anodic oxidation gives impure Ag203. Argentates, e.g. K.AgO, containing silver(I) are known.

The use of silver (II) salts, particularly argentic picolinate, as reagents for hydroxyl oxidation has also been disclosed recently. The reaction may be run in acid, neutral or basic media in aqueous or polar organic solvents at room or slightly elevated temperatures. Primary alcohols may be oxidized to aldehydes or acids depending on the conditions used. Amines and trivalent phosphorous compounds are more sensitive to oxidation with this reagent than are hydroxyl groups.

Niobium-Tantalum Niobium and tantalum form solid-solution alloys which are resistant to many corrosive media and possess all the valuable properties of the pure metals. This could have great practical value since in a number of branches of technology it might permit the replacement of pure tantalum by a cheaper alloy of niobium and tantalum. Miller" and Argent" reported data on the resistance of the niobium-tantalum system, but the tests were only carried out under mild conditions and the data have only limited significance. However, Gulyaev and Georgieva and Kieffer, Bach and Slempkowski carried out tests at elevated temperatures and their work indicated that the corrosion rates of the alloys are substantially that of tantalum provided the niobium content does not exceed 50%.

The work of Matthies et al. [22] collects the current issues, methods, and tools for DSS, and that of Argent et al. [23] describes a DSS generator within which users are able to select and link models, data, analysis tools, and reporting tools to create specific DSS for particular problems, and for which new models and tools can be created and, through software reflection (introspection), discovered to provide expanded capability where required. This system offers a new approach within which environmental systems can be described in the form of specific DSS at a scale and level of complexity suited to the problems and needs of decision makers.
