Arachidonic acid pharmacological inhibitors

Pharmacological approaches include the inhibition of release of arachidonic acid by inhibition of phospholipase A2 and the inhibition of acylcarnitine transferase I by and oxfenicine, the latter of which has been shown to prevent or at least delay ischemia-induced uncoupling. There are at present no data available on the possible effects of inhibitors of arachidonic acid release on ischemia-induced uncoupling. 

For the reasons given above, agents that interfere with leukotriene synthesis or actions, are of great interest in relation to limiting inflammatory reactions. Approaches other than the use of pharmacological inhibitors have also been tried. Dietary manipulations leading to essential fatty acid deficiency and various drug trials have led to inconclusive results. Cook and co-workers demonstrated decreased mortality from endotoxin shock in rats raised on an essential fatty acid-deficient diet ".
