Approaches to Monitoring Human Populations for Mutation Rates and Genetic Disease

Approaches to Monitoring Human Populations for Mutation Rates and Genetic Disease [Pg.105]

The University of Michigan Medical School Ann Arbor, Michigan [Pg.105]

Anxiety concerning the genetic effects of chemical mutagens in the environment and in food, of radiation, and of infectious agents is widespread. It is the responsibility of human geneticists and those with allied interests to obtain hard data on these effects so that v/ise decisions can be made and sensible actions taken. It is not sufficient to limit studies to experimental animals and then extrapolate the results to man. Species may differ in their susceptibilities to mutagenic agents, rates and mechanisms [Pg.105]
