Antistatic sprays

Another preventive measure that can be taken is to maintain the relative humidity at around 50 percent. Be careful not to increase the humidity too far— to the point where moisture starts to condense on the equipment Also, make use of antistatic spray, which is available commercially, to reduce static buildup on clothing and carpets. In a pinch, a solution of dilute fabric softener sprayed on these items will do the same.

Application of Antistatic Finishes. Antistatic finishes are commonly appHed to textile materials by padding (dipping and squeezing off excess finish), exhausting (absorption from solution due to affinity of the antistat for the textile material), spraying, and coating (see Textiles, finishing). 

Surface Applied Surfactants. Antistat agents can be appHed direcdy to the surface of a plastic part. Usually the antistat is diluted in water or in a solvent. The antistat solution is appHed by spraying, dipping, or wiping on the surface. The water or solvent dries leaving a thin film that attracts moisture. Since it is appHed to the surface, migration through the resin is not a factor. In practice, the quaternary ammonium compounds find the most use. They are soluble in water and effective at low concentrations. 

Alkanesulfonates are preferably used as an internal antistatic agent for plastics, but where incorporation into the polymer is not possible they can be applied to the surface of the finished article in the form of a 1 % aqueous solution of the surfactant by spraying or dipping [99].

Monazolines [ICI], TM for a series of cationic imidazolines useful as emulsifiers, antistatic agents, water displacers, and corrosion inhibitors in agricultural sprays, acid and solvent cleaners, cosmetics, and water-oil systems. 

This is a non-aerosol, pump spray carpet antistat for the removal of nuisance static. To remove static from carpeting and other surfaces, spray lightly with this formulation. It is not necessary to saturate the surface. If additional protection is needed, it is preferable to have repeat applications rather than one, to insure even treatment.
