Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) block copolymers are adequate raw materials to produce thermoplastic mbbers (TRs). SBS contains butadiene—soft and elastic—and styrene— hard and tough—domains. Because the styrene domains act as cross-links, vulcanization is not necessary to provide dimensional stability. TRs generally contain polystyrene (to impart hardness), plasticizers, fillers, and antioxidants processing oils can also be added. Due to their nature, TR soles show low surface energy, and to reach proper adhesion a surface modification is always needed. [Pg.762]

Pre-market submissions often concern the use of a food contact article that may be composed of a base polymer used in conjunction with several adjuvants, such as fillers, antioxidants, processing aids, or blended with other polymers. It is important to understand what previous regulatory authorizations can be relied upon, when anew submission is required, and when multiple submissions are necessary. [Pg.22]

The antioxidant activity of individual tea polyphenols in different model assays showed a proportional relationship to the number of hydrogen radical donors of catechins. A synergistic effect was observed between tea catechins and caffeine, ascorbic, citric, malic, and tartaric acids and tocopherols (153). Formation of oxidation products of (+)-catechin dirring the antioxidative process has been observed in oxidation model studies. According to the proposed mechanism, (+)-catechin can scavenge four radicals per molecule (154, 155). Yamamoto et al. (156) have summarized the chemistry and application aspects of green tea, especially in relation to using their catechins. [Pg.513]

Crittenden [1984] stated that for relatively moderate temperatures in the range 366 - 505 K deposition rates from pure hydrocarbon streams correlate well with = 42 kJ/mol. Watkinson [1988] suggests that values around 40 kJ/mol appear to be typical of antioxidation processes. The data from Fig. 11.2 agree with these observations. Watkinson and Epstein [1969] observed that the initial deposition... [Pg.197]
