Resveratrol (1) has been regarded as a potent anti-inflammatory agent [448-451] and is still attracting attention in the same status [481-483]. Piceatannol (3) is also a potent anti-inflammatory agent [483,484]. Their derivatives [398,485] also showed potent effects and the SARs have been investigated. Moreover, the anti-allergic activities of resveratrol (1) and its analogs isolated from the rhizomes of Rheum undulatum, were studied [486,487]. [Pg.597]

The naturally occurring anti-inflammatory agent in egg-yolk was later identified as iV-(2-hydroxyethyl)palmitamide , and shown to be identical with a crystalline fraction prepared from arachis oil and soya bean lecithin which is active at 0-3 g/kg in the guinea-pig anaphylactic arthritis test . It is not active, however, in a cotton-pellet test or in a capillary permeability test in rats. When the compound is degraded, anti-allergic activity resides in... [Pg.108]

Comments on the Dog Experiments. A procedure similar to the presently described dog Ascaris allergy test has been used to study the anti-allergic activity of BM 06. 001 (46). Apparently oxatomide is a much more potent inhibitor of both the allergic and the histamine-induced skin reactions, when compared to BM 06. 001. Furthermore oxatomide virtually abolished the skin oedemas at doses below those inducing behavioural changes in the animals. [Pg.205]

From these studies it is concluded that oxatomide is a safe, orally active compound with pronounced anti-allergic activity, which appears to be based on both the reduction of the amount of released allergic mediators and antagonism of their action on target smooth muscle. [Pg.205]

Rhodiocyanoside A (17), isolated from Rhodiola quadrifida, was found to inhibit the histamine release by 10" to lO" in a concentration-dependent manner. It also significantly inhibited the PCA (passive cutaneous anaphylaxis) reaction, suggesting the anti-allergic activity of the plant [25],... [Pg.343]

LUT belongs to the sub-class of flavonoids known as flavones, and is one of the most bio-active flavonoids. It is found mainly in parsley, thyme, and peanut hull. Possesses in its molecular structure two benzene rings linked through a heteroc cle. One of the benzene ring has two hydroxyls in the meta position (resorcinol) and the other ring has two hydroxyls in ortho position (catechol). LUT is important since several beneficial effects on human health have been reported, such as cardiovascular protection, anticancer activity, anti-allergic activity and the prevention of cataracts (Lopez-Lazaro, 2009). [Pg.112]
