The Medical Information department may have its own medical writers dedicated to phase IV (postapproval) publications, booklets and pamphlets. Many large companies have a specific Medical Writing department usually reporting into the Research department, who will assist in writing clinical reports, publications and help prepare the clinical investigational brochure or NDA annual safety reports. These associates usually have science degrees and have been trained in technical and medical writing.

Lesson learned Initial and continual driver safety training is considered a critical component of the overall safety program, and is viewed as an investment not as a cost. Consequently, one of your most important safety goals should be to establish a comprehensive driver training program that includes initial, refresher (annual), and remedial safety training for all drivers. 

In 2004, the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations and the Approved Code of Practice were reviewed and it was decided that no new Regulations were needed. However it is expected at the time of going to print that two changes will be introduced in 2007 (likely). The first is that first-aid provision should be based on risk assessment rather than relying on minimum numbers. The assessment should identify first-aid risks in the workplace and then recommend the level and type of equipment, facilities and personnel required. The revised requirements may also specify annual refresher training rather than every three years.

In many industries, eonfined space entry is a routine part of the job. In others, it may only be an oeea-sional necessity. Sadly, bid awards for confined spaee attendants are not based upon the training and skill development of these professionals, but on those who are the lowest paid. As a result, recruiting and competency in this trade wanes and so follows the level of safety. Furthermore, employers should include attendant personnel in regular safety training and objectively evaluate their competencies at least annually.

Note Before beginning work at XYZ all new employees shall attend a mandatory new employee safety orientation session. These sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis by the Safety Division for all new employees and as annual refresher training for current employees. XYZ s chemical safety program will be discussed during these sessions.
