Pyruvic Acid Compounds.—Lubrzynska and Smedley have recently shown that a number of aldehydes such as heliotropin, anisic aldehyde, benzaldehyde, and cinnamic aldehyde, condense with pyruvic acid in slightly alkaline solution, with the formation of )8-unsaturated-a-ketonic acids.
