ZINDO/1 IS based on a modified version of the in termediate neglect of differen tial overlap (IXDO), which was developed by Michael Zerner of the Quantum Theory Project at the University of Florida. Zerner s original INDO/1 used the Slater orbital exponents with a distance dependence for the first row transition metals only. Ilow ever. in HyperChein constant orbital expon en ts are used for all the available elein en ts, as recommended by Anderson. Friwards, and Zerner. Inorg. Chem. 2H, 2728-2732.iyH6. [Pg.129]

In 1971, Great Britain implemented a ban on subtherapeutic use of tetracyclines in animal production. This action was taken after considerable debate and was greatly influenced by antibiotic resistant Sa Imone 1 la infections (S. typhimurium phage type 29) in humans in the mid-1960 s, which appeared to be related to similar infections in calves (Anderson, 23 Antibiotics were not approved as feed additives for calves at that time nor previously. Thus, earlier implementation of the Swann Committee (Ifi) recommendations would have had no apparent impact on that particular epidemic, nor did it prevent a similar epidemic later (Rowe et al., 12J. [Pg.82]

There has been a long-standing and unfruitful opposition between reductionist and holistic science in connection with agricultural and ecological research (see e.g. Lockeretz and Anderson 1993, Thompson 1995, Rowe 1997), which has hampered cross-disciplinary cooperation. From the holistic view, analytic, reductive methods are necessarily reductionist and are therefore bad science because they do not capture the connectedness of complex reality. Furthermore they are (at least in part) to blame for the present agricultural and environmental problems. From the reductionist view, analytic, reductive methods ensure the objectivity of science, and other methods are, therefore, not scientific. [Pg.367]

Anderson Co. (Cleveland, Ohio) came out with a horizontal basket extractor (201) in which the baskets were pushed through a rectangular chamber by means of four externally mounted hydraulic rams. Each ram pushed a row of baskets in sequence to cause the baskets to travel, one-by-one, under each successive spray head. [Pg.2575]
