The principal buyers of the research are large corporations, technology providers, investment banks, and venture capital firms. The pricing would generally be in the 20,000 to 30,000 range for a year of reports in addition to access to the analyst. In the past few years, venture capitalists very much relied on this research, as their lean-staffed firms had to turn to external providers for approval on particular investments. [Pg.94]

The investment banks that underwrote the IPOs of the online brokerages, or those that held large positions in them, most likely had an analyst from the equity research side track and follow their corporate activity. Some investment banks, because they tracked so many companies involved in the online financial services industry, retained special e-finance analysts and groups. [Pg.95]

Equity capital consists of the capital contributed by stockholders, together with earnings retained for reinvestment in the business. Stockholders purchase stocks in the expectation of getting a return on their investment. This return can come from the dividends paid annually to stockholders (the part of earnings returned to the owners) or from growth of the company that is recognized by the stock market and leads to an increase in the price of the stock. Most stock is usually held by sophisticated institutional investors such as banks, mutual funds, insurance companies, and pension funds. External users include tax authorities, government regulators, banks, investment firms, portfolio managers, analysts, investors, suppliers, and many others. [Pg.22]

The World Bank also reports that the carbon market and associated emerging markets for clean technology and commodities have attracted a significant response firom the capital markets and from experienced investors, including those in the United States. Analysts estimated that US 11.8 billion ( 9 billion) had been invested in 58 carbon funds as of March 2007 compared to US 4.6 billion ( 3.7 billion) in 40 funds as of May 2006. Fifty percent of all capital driven to the carbon value chain is managed from the UK. Most of the newly raised money, of private origin, came to the sell-side (project development and carbon asset creation) which currently represents 58% of the capitalization. [Pg.299]
