Both gas chromatographic instruments were connected with a PDP 11/45 computer via an analog-to-digital converter. The peak areas were calculated from the digitalized chromatographic data by means of software developed at Delft University of Technology. 

Analog-to-digital converters usually complete the experimental setup, allowing the current-potential curve to be recorded in digital form. Raw data treatments designed to reduce undesired effects or to allow an easier theoretical analysis are therefore greatly facilitated.
