AMOXICILLIN AND POTASSIUM CLAVULANATE TABLETS 30 TABLETS/BOTTLE S505012036259 BT 67.43 ... [Pg.404]

AMOXICILLIN AND POTASSIUM CLAVULANATE May be administered without regard to meals. [Pg.1449]

Drug-resistant bacteria inactivate /3-lactam antibiotics by hydrolyzing the amide linkage of the lactam ring. Augmentin consists of a /3-lactam antibiotic (amoxicillin) and potassium clavulanate, a compound that blocks the enzyme responsible for the hydrolysis. This combination enables the amoxicillin to avoid being deactivated by the enzyme. [Pg.1029]

Drug/Food interactions Absorption of most penicillins is affected by food these medications are best taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Penicillin V may be given with meals however, blood levels may be slightly higher when taken on an empty stomach. Amoxicillin and amoxicillin/potassium clavulanate tablets may be given without regard to meals. [Pg.1477]

The US Pharmacopoeia gives an HPLC method for assay of the drug substance and for amoxicillin content in various dosage forms [9], A different HPLC method is specified for amoxicillin content in co-formulation products with potassium clavulanate [56],... [Pg.29]

The pharmacokinetics of amoxicillin after oral [187,188] and parenteral [188,189] administration to humans, and after oral administration in combination with potassium clavulanate [190], have been reviewed. These reviews also cover antibacterial activity and therapeutic use. [Pg.43]

Amoxicillin is well absorbed when given orally, with a bioavailability that appears to be much higher than expected in the light of its physico-chemical properties and the pH partition theory [191], Numerous studies show recovery of intact amoxicillin in urine after oral administration in the range 43 to 80 % after 6 to 8 hours, with most figures in the upper part of this range [147,171,172,187,188,190]. An additional 10 to 25 % of the dose appears in urine as the penicilloic acid [147,148,152,171,172,187] with a ratio of about 2 to 1 of the 5R to 5S isomers [152,171,172]. Amoxicillin is extensively distributed in body tissues and fluids, with adequate levels for antibacterial activity in most of them [187,188,190], The half life in serum is about one hour and is the same for oral, intramuscular and intravenous administration [187,188,190]. Co-administration with potassium clavulanate does not affect the absorption, distribution and excretion of amoxicillin [190]. [Pg.43]

These compounds are listed two or more times in this list for reasons that are not clear. In most cases, all the products from different manufacturers are bundled together, but in these cases exceptions have been made. Amoxicillin, for example, occurs in positions 24, 16 and 42 and in combination with potassium clavulanate at position 28. If added together, amoxicillin would move up to No. 2 in the list. Acetaminophen is known as paracetamol in Europe albuterol is known as salbutamol. [Pg.728]

Figure 3 (a) Cold contact observation results (i) the cociystal grew from clavulanate crystal to amoxicillin solution in NaOH> (ii) amoxicillin melted at 194°C, clavulanate oxidized at 203°C> while the cocrystal oxidized least, (b) DSC data of amoxicillin trihydiate (top), potassium clavulanate (middle), and the physical mixture 1 1 (bottom). The exothermic peak of I 1 mixture shows that amoxicillin and clavulanate overlay and become 1 peak at 202°C which indicates a solid solution interaction. [Pg.165]
