Amine oxides dimethylamines

Linear alpha-olefins are the source of the largest volume of ahphatic amine oxides. The olefin reacts with hydrogen bromide in the presence of peroxide catalyst, to yield primary alkyl bromide, which then reacts with dimethylamine to yield the corresponding alkyl dimethyl amine. Fatty alcohols and fatty acids are also used to produce amine oxides (Fig. 1). [Pg.191]

For the regioselectivity similar rules as for the ester pyrolysis do apply. With simple, alkylsubstituted amine oxides a statistical mixture of regioisomeric olefins is obtained. On the other hand with cycloalkyl amine oxides the regioselectivity is determined by the ability to pass through a planar, five-membered transition state. This has been demonstrated for the elimination reaction of menthyl dimethylamine oxide 10 and neomenthyl dimethylamine oxide 11 ... [Pg.65]

The assessors experienced an explosion while drying the oxide in ethyl ether. Rather drastic precautions are recommended in handling it [1], A preparation, allowed to stand for a week rather than the day specified, exploded during concentration [2], Amine oxides from the standard preparation are inclined to retain hydrogen peroxide of hydration unless it is destroyed during work-up. The perox-idate (or diperoxidate) of dimethylamine oxide would be expected to be far more dangerous than the oxide itself [3],... [Pg.463]

Fatty Amines. A variety of different fatty amines is used as intermediates for surfactant production. Primary amines are used to prepare alkoxylated amines. The primary amine is produced by reacting fatty acid with ammonia to form the nitrile followed by hydrogenation. Tertiary amines are used as an intermediate for producing betaine, amine oxide, and hydroxyl ethyl quat (HEQ). The tertiary amine is produced by reacting olefin with HBr followed by substitution with dimethylamine. [Pg.1722]

The chemical resistance of ECTFE is outstanding. It is resistant to most of the common corrosive chemicals encountered in industry. Included in this list of chemicals are strong mineral and oxidizing acids, alkalies, metal etchants, liquid oxygen, and practically all organic solvents except hot amines (aniline, dimethylamine, etc.). No known solvent dissolves or stress cracks ECTFE at temperatures up to 250°F (120°C). [Pg.542]

Amine oxides are prepared by the oxidation of tertiary amines (e.g. cocoa dimethylamine). [Pg.306]

As with betaines and other amphoterics, efforts continue in the development of amine oxides with reduced levels of residual impurities. A process for preparing long monoalkyl-chain amine oxides with low nitrite and nitrosamine levels [41] and another process [42] involving the oxidation of Cjg-Cig dimethylamine with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of malic acid and diethylenetriaminepentaacetate (DTPA) have been described. The resulting amine oxide contains (the undesired) nitrite levels below 1 ppm [42]. [Pg.235]

Amine oxides are well-established surfactants. The most common type is lauryl-dimethylamine oxide (AO), made from alkyldimethylamines and hydrogen peroxide (Fig. 12). Other structural features are possible. Reacting DMAPA with a... [Pg.107]

COCO fatty acid or ester followed by hydrogen peroxide gives a cocoamidopropyl dimethylamine oxide (CAPAO). Both of these are typically sold as 30% aqueous solutions. An etheramine can be ethoxylated and converted to a unique amine oxide (EAO) [16]. [Pg.108]
