Amelioration of Gentamicin Nephrotoxicity by Garlic Relation to Antioxidant Enzymes

AMELIORATION OF GENTAMICIN NEPHROTOXICITY BY GARLIC RELATION TO ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES [Pg.491]

A potential therapeutic approach to protecting or reversing renal GM damage would have very important clinical consequences. GM administration in rats provides an excellent model of acute renal failure for studying therapeutic potential in preventing the side effects of acute renal failure pathogenesis in humans. [Pg.491]

The pathophysiology of GM nephropathy is yet to be completely understood. However, reactive oxygen species (ROS) have been involved in GM-induced nephropathy. It has been found that renal cortical lipoperoxidation, in vivo renal H202 generation, and in vitro mitochondrial H202 generation are increased in GM-treated rats. [Pg.491]
