Aluminium translucent

Sapphires are naturally occurring gem stones, and are transparent to translucent. We know from ancient records that they have always been highly prized. Natural sapphires are found in many igneous rocks, especially syenites and pegmatites. Alternatively, synthetic sapphires may be made by doping aluminium oxide AI2O3 with a chro-mophore. [Pg.463]

Different filter supports have been tested nitrocellulose (NC), polycarbonate (PC), aluminium oxide (AO), polyethylenterephtalate (PET). NC filters have shown reduced non-specific binding compared to AO filters but seem to interact with marker PEG and steroids (Nicklin et al. 1992). AO filters displayed only half of permeability of PC for taurocholic acid. Reproducibility of binding and transport experiments was improved with PC filters (Hidalgo et al. 1989). Pore size is an important factor which needs to be considered and tested CACO-2 cells migrate through pores > 1 xm (Tucker et al. 1992 Hilgers et al. 1990). PET filters are translucent and allow microscopic observation as well as staining procedures. [Pg.442]

Sun protection elements (aluminium and ETFE lamellae, or mobile textile membranes, cf. Fig. 6.6) can be integrated for further building-physics improvement in the clearance of dual-chamber systems with separate layers. In variants with a curved middle layer and decoupled volumes, and different pressures, the middle layer can assume the sun protection role. For this, the outer and middle foil layers display a print of inversely arranged patterns. The translucency of the cushions is controlled by adjusting the middle layer through pressure control of the two air-chambers. [Pg.192]

Body panels are also being made of paintable sheet moulding compounds, based on thermoset polymers. However, steel is still cheaper for the high volume models. A concept car from Ford has been produced with injection moulded, translucent panels supported by an aluminium frame, and coloured by LED technology to allow the driver to alter the colour at will. [Pg.16]
