In the clinical setting, anthracyclines are administered via the intravenous route (Table 55 1). The anthracyclines are metabolized extensively in the liver, with reduction and hydrolysis of the ring substituents. The hydroxylated metabolite is an active species, whereas the aglycone is inactive. Up to 50% of drug is eliminated in the feces via biliary excretion, and for this reason dose reduction is required in the setting of liver dysfunction. Although anthracyclines are usually administered on an every-3-week schedule, alternative schedules of administration such as low-dose weekly or 72-96 hour continuous infusions have been shown to yield equivalent clinical efficacy with reduced overall toxicity. 

Blurred vision is one of the most frequent adverse effects from ophthalmic ointments. This problem can often be alleviated or minimized by simply reducing the volume of ointment instilled during the daytime. Another option involves instructing patients to apply the ointment to each eye on an alternating schedule. This allows patients to have acceptable vision with at least one eye at all times during the waking hours. 

Delayed recovery of post-transplant renal allograft dysfunction was seen more often in the past when elevated doses of cyclosporine were used, principally with the concomitant occurrence of prolonged ischemic times. This event has been largely diminished by the delay of onset of CsA administration until good renal graft function is present or by the use of alternative schedules for induction of immunosuppression that spare calcineurin blockers [2, 3]. Withdrawal of CsA in renal transplant patients with delayed graft function has been associated with less severe and shorter renal dysfunction [274]. 

Approaches for generating new schedules are discussed in this section. Several techniques can be used to obtain new schedules explicitly, guided by the LP shadow prices. Each leg is associated with a shadow price in the LP solution, which indicates how expensive it is to schedule this leg. The generation of schedules focuses on the expensive legs to provide more alternative schedules that include them and drive the LP cost down. New schedules improve the LP solution if they have negative reduced costs. Usually the cutoff value is set higher than zero to include schedules with low positive costs that may combine well with the rest of them because columns are not added one at a time to the LP.

Dehumidifier drying has attractions when high-quality solid wood is sought. Because of the relatively low operating temperatures, color and kiln brown stain development is reduced significantly while checking is less than in standard alternative schedules. 

Prepare a schedule for the current semester also prepare two additional alternative schedules. Discuss the pros and cons of each schedule. Select what you think is the best schedule, and discuss it with your instructor or advisor. Consider his or her suggestions and modify the schedule if necessary then present the final schedule to your instructor. Maintain a daily logbook to keep track of how closely you are fi>llowing the schedule and where time is being used inefficiendy. 

Collectively, the stress of these alternate schedules can have an effect on the safety of your workplace. 

The management of risk has been next introduced. From the results obtained it can be noticed that risk can only be managed at the expense of the expected profit. In addition, despite the flexibility introduced by the uncertain parameters and the inventory, different cost-dependent alternatives are required to be able to manage risk in a meaningful way. A variety of alternative schedules are obtained reflecting different risk exposure policies.
