The members of the CCPS Equipment Reliability Data Subcommittee wish to thank their employers for providing time to participate in this project those sponsors and members of the Technical Steering Committee who reviewed and critiqued this book prior to publication and those many companies in the chemical processing and allied industries that responded to the Subcommittee s survey of available process equipment reliability data. 

April 14 A report of a congressional subcommittee chaired by Senator John Kerry (D-Mass) concludes that the U.S. antidrug effort had been compromised by the Reagan administration s ignoring evidence of drug trafficking by its Nicaraguan contra allies. 

In 1996, a previous subcommittee of the National Research Council s Committee on Toxicology (COT)1 judged that the Navy s interim 8-hr time-weighted-average permissible exposure level (PEL) of 350 mg/m3 for JP-4, JP-5, and JP-8 was adequate to protect the health of Navy personnel occupation-ally exposed to vapors from those fuels, based on the data available at that time however, it identified a number of data gaps and recommended that the PEL for the three jet-fuel vapors be considered interim until further research had been completed. 

The subcommittee is aware that Air Force personnel engaged in particular jobs (such as fuel-cell workers) are sometimes derm ally exposed to substantial amounts ofJP-8 (see Chapter 2). The subcommittee recommends thatappro-priate protective clothing be worn to avoid dermal exposures to JP-8. 

A request to establish a new electrode classification must be a written request, and it needs to provide sufficient detail to permit the A5 Committee on Filler Metals and Allied Materials or the Subcommittee to determine whether the new classification or the modification of an existing classification is more appropriate, and whether either is necessary to satisfy the need. In particular, the request needs to include ... 

All necessary action on each request will be completed as soon as possible. If more than 12 months lapse, the Secretary shall inform the requestor of the status of the request, with copies to the Chairs of the Committee and of the Subcommittee. Requests still outstanding after 18 months shall be considered not to have been answered in a timely manner and the Secretary shall report these to the Chair of the Committee on Filler Metals and Allied Materials, for action.
