Allergy infection prevalence

Aberg N, Sundell J, Eriksson B, Hesselmar B. 1996. Prevalence of allergic disease in school children in relation to family history, upper respiratory tract infections and residential characteristics. Allergy. 51 232-237. [Pg.142]

Common causative organisms in adults with canaliculitis include Staphylococcus aureus and Actinomyces species. Primary herpetic infections (herpes simplex, varicella, and vaccinia) have a higher prevalence among patients younger than age 20 years and often present with cutaneous manifestations of the infectious disease. Chronic allergies may also be associated with canalicular obstruction. Occasionally, patients may suffer from canalicular obstruction as a result of topical antimetabolite treatment such as 5-fluorouracil or mitomycin C. [Pg.433]

Strannegard IL, Larsson LO, Wennergren G, Strannegard O Prevalence of allergy in children in relation to prior BCG vaccination and infection with atypical mycobacteria. Allergy 1998 53 249-254. [Pg.94]

It is well documented that certain viral infections are associated with the induction and/or exacerbation of allergic reactions [84-86]. Moreover, infection with HCV, HAV and HBV can be associated with increased IgE levels [30, 31] and certain allergic manifestations [28]. In addition, HIV-1 infection can be associated with increased IgE levels [33-42] and augmented prevalence of adverse reactions to drugs and urticarial rash [47-48], Similarly, certain bacterial infections (e.g. S. aureus) can exacerbate atopic dermatitis [62-64], certain forms of allergic rhinitis [65, 66], and asthma [87], Therefore, it appears that viral and bacterial infections can be involved in the induction and/or exacerbation of respiratory and skin allergies. [Pg.207]

Recommended for hospitals with a high prevalence of infections caused by methicillin-resistant staphylococci or for serious allergy to j9-lactams. For serious /1-lactam allergy. [Pg.714]
