Carbamazepine causes a variety of rashes and other allergic reactions including fever, hepatosplenomegaly, and lymphadenopathy, but the incidence of serious hypersensitivity reactions is rare. Rarely reported hematological reactions to various neuroleptic drugs include agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenic purpura, hemolytic anemia, leukopenia, and eosinophilia. These are thought to represent allergic or hypersensitivity reactions, although this has been questioned in one detailed case report of chlorpromazine-induced agranulocytosis (514). 

Efavirenz can cause an allergic syndrome called the DRESS syndrome (Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms). It is a life-threatening reaction that typically includes a rash, fever, lymphadenopathy, hepatitis, interstitial nephritis, pneumonia, myocarditis, and hematological abnormalities, particularly eosinophi-lia and a mononucleosis-like atypical lymphocjdosis. The DRESS syndrome has been described in an HIV-infected woman taking efavirenz (20). 

Drug allergy may develop when Hj antagonists are given orally but results more commonly from topical application. Allergic dermatitis is not uncommon other hypersensitivity reactions include dmg fever and photosensitization. Hematological complications such as leukopenia, agranulocytosis.
