Saleh et al. studied Suwannee River fulvic acids (SRFA) using stepwise RP-HPLC and PDA detection. They reported that the hydrophilic constituents represented about 40% fulvic acid and can be resolved into at least six peaks, while the hydrophobic constituents represented about 30% and can be resolved into 12 peaks. The retention and LfV-Vis spectra of the resolved peaks were characteristic of aliphatic organic acids in the hydrophilic fraction and of conjugated aliphatic ketones and phenols in the hydrophobic fraction. [Pg.1159]

A recent alternative to HPLC or GC in the analysis of organic acids is capillary zone electrophoresis. It provides completely different selectivities from chromatographic methods, shorter analysis times, and no derivatization is required. As a drawback, the lack of UV absorbance of aliphatic organic acids above 220 nm requires the addition of substances showing strong UV absorption for indirect UV detection. [Pg.1537]

Aliphatic organic acids are very widely distributed in living things, particularly in the form of fats, hence the name fatty acids . [Pg.8]

The focus of this chapter is on the analysis of short-chain aliphatic organic acids in aqueous matrices. The most prevalent organic adds discussed in this chapter are listed together with their pfCa values and structures in Table 15.1. Fatty acids that are longer chain organic acids are not included in this chapter since they are predominantly analyzed in biological specimen. FiuHier up-to-date information with respect to fatty acid research and analysis can be foimd for example in a theme issue of Analytica Chimica Acta (Vol. 465, 2002). [Pg.394]

Tyrosine, It has been found that within 7 hours afto the oral administration of dZ-tyrosine to adult human an excess of urinary iyromne and aliphatic organic acids are. excreted which would seem to account for nearly all of the d-component fed. These findings are interpreted to indicate that d(-f-)-tyrosine unlike l —)-tyromne is metabolized in man in such a mimner as to render it unavailable for normal physiolopcal functions (113). [Pg.256]

In organic systems aluminum is presumed to be complexed primarily by difunctional organic acids through a bidentate chelate (Martell and Motekaitis 1989), forming a ring structure that incorporates two Al—O—C bonds (Fig. 7). An often reported order of complexing ability for aliphatic organic acids (e.g. Stumm and Furrer 1987 Nordstrom and May 1989) is ... [Pg.175]

Fatty acids are aliphatic organic acids with the fundamental structure CH3(CH2) COOH, where n can range from zero to more than 26. Thus, fatty acids range from the shortest, acetic acid (2 0), to the very long-chain fatty acids... [Pg.151]
