Albumin deposit

TARTARUS — is Calculus of Wine, called Wine-stone by similitude, the stone, or deposit, which cleaves to the sides of vessels. Paracelsus uses it for stone in the bladder or kidneys, or the albuminous deposit in the other members which causes gout. [Pg.395]

To date in vivo blood flow measurements of various ions have only been carried out sporadically. This is due to the problems associated with this type of measurement. Since ion-selective electrodes can usually tolerate temperatures only as high as about 50°C or just slightly above 100°C, the necessary sterilization is not so simple. With the newer liquid ion-exchanger and ion-carrier electrodes, too little is known about the toxicity properties of the active phases. The blood-compatible glass membrane electrodes often collect albumin deposits on the electrode surface during flow measurements, which increase with time and cause the electrode potential to drift. The first step uses a 66 kDa albumin-like molecule as carrier (VNPr-U), from which the acidic conditions of the trank mucus (VNPr-D) will detach the urinary ligands. The carriers in the trank contents are additional OBPs which then preferentially bind the lipophylic ligands (L) released from their urinary vehicle. Around 99% of calcium is contained in the bones, whereas the other 1% resides in the extracellular fluid. Of this extracellular calcium, approximately 40% is bound to albumin, and the remainder is in the ionized, physiologically active form. Normal calcium levels are maintained by three primary factors parathyroid hormone, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, and calcitonin. Parathyroid hormone increases renal tubular calcium resorption and promotes bone resorption. The active form of vitamin D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, regulates absorption of calcium from the GI tract. Electrophoresis on cellulose acetate strips (Sepraphore III, Gelman Instrument, Ann Arbor, MI) was done in the conventional manner [12] in order to obtain a comparative electrophoretic mobility of non-adsorbed albumin. For this purpose, BSA-BSA (2.5 w/v) was deposited on the cellulose acetate paper twice in volumes of 10 ul each. Electrophoresis was attain performed in the Gelman Chamber with Pt electrodes at 20°C (see Table 3) After completion, the strips were stained with Ponceau S protein stain (Gelman Instruments) and washed with 5 acetic acid. The stained cellulose acid strips were subsequently cut into 3 mm wide pieces which were monitored for protein content y-count-ing. [Pg.174]

Most lipids are barely soluble in water, and many have amphipathic properties. In the blood, free triacylglycerols would coalesce into drops that could cause fat embolisms. By contrast, amphipathic lipids would be deposited in the blood cells membranes and would dissolve them. Special precautions are therefore needed for lipid transport in the blood. Wakbukton s method of effecting the purification of rape oil is by treatment with caustic alkali, ia which, the albuminous and other impurities are soluble, and are. separated, associated with soapy matters. In a suitable vessel, containing fifty-two parts of. caustic soda solution, of specific gravity 1-010, are to be put one hundred pounds of the refined oil those are to be stirred with a wooden ladle till well mixed. The mixture is then allowed to stand twenty-four hours undisturbed, in a cold place, after which it is then slowly warmed, and again well stirred. After twenty-four hours subsidence all the oil will have separated if such should not bo entirely the case, the complete separation may be effected by the addition of a small quantity of spirit of wine. The oil drawn off from the liquor is afterwards well washed with hot water, till the pure oil is obtained without taste or color, and if desired, may be passed through a filter.
