Admixed Additives

In thermoplastic resins, the flame retardants are usually admixed, but not chemically bound onto the polymeric backbone. A wide variety of flame retardants are available for thermoplastics. Halogen based flame retardants were heavily in use, but are now increasingly replaced by non-halogen containing flame retardants for environmental and health reasons. [Pg.74]

Examples of halogenated flame retardants are shown in Table 7.2. [Pg.74]

The base material is a polymer solution or a melt, which may contain various admixed additives or particles. Generally, electrospinning operates with solutions. If the material is melt, it is emphasized and then called melt-electro spinning [62,63]. [Pg.305]

These can be used where the additive has an element that is clearly different from the filler, and where the amount of additive is sufficient for the sensitivity of the technique being employed. Thus, carbon analysis can be used for many additives on silica surfaces, and titanium analysis is possible for organo-titanates on many fillers. This approach does not distinguish between surface and admixed additive though. [Pg.159]

The immobilized carbamates (40 pmol) were transferred to a sealable 96-well Weflon plate, and admixed with 10 pmol each of various primary or secondary amines dissolved in 400 iL of anhydrous toluene. After sealing, the plate was irradiated in a multimode microwave instrument, first generating a ramp to reach 130 °C within 45 min and then holding this temperature for an additional 15 min. After cooling, the resins were filtered with the aid of a liquid handler and the filtrates were concentrated to obtain the desired substituted ureas in good purity and reasonable yields. Anilines reacted rather sluggishly and 2-substituted benzyl carbamates afforded somewhat inferior results. [Pg.329]

The substrates were admixed with 50 mol% of copper(I) chloride and small amounts of l-(2-propyl)-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (pmimPF6) in dioxane. The mixture was heated to 110 °C within 2 min and kept at this reaction temperature for an additional 1 min. After cooling to room temperature, the product was rapidly released from the polymer support employing 20% trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in dichloromethane, furnishing the corresponding bis-TFA salt in moderate yield. [Pg.335]

The efficiency of the [2 + 2]-cycloadditions of 417 was utilized in a strategy for the synthesis of cephalosporin derivatives that carry an acetone or acetic acid ester group in the 3-position (Scheme 6.88) [175]. Liberated in the presence of 2-(trimethylsilyl-oxy)propene, 417 underwent cycloaddition leading to 435, treatment of which with tetrabutylammonium or hydrogen fluoride furnished the A3-cephalosporin 436 admixed with the A2-isomer. This mixture was converted to pure 436 by an oxidation-reduction sequence. In addition to the trimethylsilylenol ether of acetone, the... [Pg.319]

The admixing of additional catalysts during blending increases the transesterification reaction but seems to affect the color of the final product. Conventional... [Pg.488]

In addition to these three major methods mentioned, several other computational approaches can also be used to deal with population stratification. For example, ADMIXMAP (22-26) is a model-based method that estimates the individual history of admixture. It can be applied to an admixed population with two or more ancestral populations. It also tests the association of a trait with ancestry at a marker locus with control for population structure. Wu et al. developed a software package in R (PSMIX) for the inference of population stratification and admixture (27). PSMIX is based on the maximum likelihood method. It performs as well as model-based methods such as STRUCTURE and is more computationally efficient. [Pg.39]

Frequently, small amounts of additives have to be admixed as processing aids or to improve the properties of the polymers, before molding compounds or granulated compounds can be made out of them. But also polymers accruing as dispersions have to be converted into a ready-to-use form by additives before they can be applied. [Pg.356]
