Adhesives automated selective

Jet dispensing, also known as jetting, is a direct-dispensing process whereby the adhesive paste is forced through a fine nozzle and programmed to flow onto selected areas controlled from a computer database. It is an automated method that differs from syringe/needle dispensing in that contact with the surface is not required to produce the dots, lines, or patterns. 

Spraying assures excellent application where selective or spot coating is required and may be easily automated. Spraying can be accomplished by several methods (conventional air assisted, airless spray or electrostatic spray). Sprayed films usually give the best aesthetic appearance to a coated part (no runs, sags or tears). Dry film thickness is easier to control with spraying because adjustments can be made in adhesive dilution, fluid flow. 

Dispensing defects can be detected by visual inspection or automated inspection techniques. Such automated techniques include those based on visible light images as well as laser profilometry that determines the actual volume of the adhesive or solder paste deposit. However, inspection slows the process assembly line. The more joints that are selected for inspection (that is, not aU joints need to be inspected) and the greater the information detail required from of the inspection results (referring to the height profilometry data collection), the longer the delay in the process flow. 

Selection of the robot and the dispensing equipment are of primary importance when automating sealant and adhesive application processes. Those installations that have taken into account all aspects of the application requirements have been successful.
