Cerate of Spanish flies may be spread for blisters by means of a spatula slightly warmed. Perhaps the best substance to spread it upon is ordinary adhesive plaster, spreading the cerate so that a margin of half an inch is left uncovered. This will serve to keep the blister in its place. 

To apply to the skin a piece of linen spread with adhesive plaster, having a circular opening in its centre corresponding to the intended size of the issue, and then to rub upon the skin within the opening a piece of the caustic previously moistened at one end. The application is to be continued until the life of the part is destroyed, when the caustic should be carefully washed off by a wet sponge or wet tow, or neutralized by vinegar. 

Corn and callus caps and plasters contain high concentrations (usually 40%) in a semisolid base spread on to a suitable backing material, contained within a ring that is either self-adhesive or attached to an adhesive plaster. They should be changed every 1-2 days for about a week, after which the callosity should lift away easily. 

Hinge lids are restricted to rectangular containers. Hinge lids are unsuitable for products which are at all moisture sensitive, but they can be used for dressings or adhesive plasters. The hinges may be formed from matching tabs and slots formed in the container and lid, or involve a separate wire hinge entrapped within a curled under extension to the lid and whose ends slot into two notches in the container sidewall.

Another method for decontamination of small areas with residual decontamination is to cover the area with adhesive plaster and leave it for a day or two. The residual contamination will often come off with the removed plaster.
