Additives radical absorbers

The exterior durabiHty of relatively stable coatings can be enhanced by use of additives. Ultraviolet absorbers reduce the absorption of uv by the resins and hence decrease the rate of photodegradation. Eurther improvements can be gained by also adding free-radical trap antioxidants (qv) such as hindered phenols and especially hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS). MFEs on the dynamics of the radical pair in CtoN" clusters (C oN " ) -MePH system were examined in TH F-H2O (2 1) mixed solvent. M FEs on the decay profiles of the transient absorption at 5 20 nm due to the phenothiazine cation radical (P H " ) are shown in Eigure 15.9b. The decay was retarded in the presence of the magnetic field. In addition, the absorbance at 10 (is after laser excitation increased with increasing magnetic field. The result indicated that the yield of the escaped PH increased with the increase in magnetic field. Therefore, the MFEs on the decay profile were clearly observed. [Pg.271]

Howard and Ingold studied this equilibrium reaction in experiments on the oxidation of tetralin and 9,10—dihydroanthracene in the presence of specially added triphenylmethyl hydroperoxide[41]. From the quantum yield data in Table I and the extent of sunlight absorption by each polymer (Table I and Figure l) it is apparent that although PET and PmPiPA absorb strongly, they have very low quantum yields for their primary reactions. PP on the other hand absorbs weakly due to low concentrations of chromophores but these chromophores give radical products by efficient processes.
