Additional Meeting Thoughts

If a manager calls a meeting to discuss a topic, the manager gives up the option to act unilaterally on that topic or area. To do otherwise is to risk losing credibility. Meet standing up—I once had had a boss who did this. 

Consider some definitions to set the scene for this aspect of developing relationships. An ASCE (2010) task committee developed definitions of professional, technologist, and technician and they are quoted here

Thus, to encourage wetting, 7sl and 7lv should be made as small as possible. This is done in practice by adding a surfactant to the liquid phase. The surfactant adsorbs to both the liquid-solid and liquid-vapor interfaces, lowering those interfacial tensions. Nonvolatile surfactants do not affect 7sv appreciably (see, however. Section X-7). It might be thought that it would be sufficient merely to lower ytv and that a rather small variety of additives would suffice to meet all needs. Actually it is equally if not more important that the surfactant lower 7sL> and each solid will make its own demands. 

Obesity is thought to contribute to type 2 diabetes by placing additional stress on the pancreas, which makes it less able to respond and produce adequate insulin to meet the body s metabolic needs. 

The editors are pleased that the original idea of a book could eventually be realised. This was made possible because of the willingness of many meeting participants to saddle themselves with the additional work of compiling their data and thoughts in form of an article for this edition. We are thus foremost grateful to all contributors for their valuable input. 

Why did Ms. J think a psychiatric evaluation for Mr. K was so important after meeting him only once First, Ms. J saw that his symptoms could be indicative of at least a couple of different disorders. As for Mr. K s sinus complaints, she was having trouble distinguishing between an obsessional thought and a delusion. In addition to wanting more information from Mr. K himself, she also wanted the opinion of another mental health professional. Second, Ms. J knew that OCD can be very difficult to treat without medication. She knew that for Mr. K to experience optimal relief from his symptoms, medication should at least be considered as part of the treatment plan. 

The present volume contains two papers in addition to those formally presented at the symposium. The first (Chapter 24) concerns development of an industrial nitration plant employing injectors for mixing the liquid streams. While an offer of this paper was received prior to the symposium, there was insufficient notice for it to be incorporated into the program. Nevertheless, we feel it to be of interest and direct relevance to the symposium and so have included it for the benefit of the reader. The second paper (Chapter 25) is devoted to vapor phase nitrations and was presented at an earlier American Chemical Society meeting. Since the papers presented at the symposium were concerned primarily with liquid phase processes, we thought that, because of their industrial importance, vapor phase nitrations should be included also. 

Several factors are thought to be involved in the mechanism of durability improvement. The objective of this study was to examine compounds which are capable of interacting chemically with the steel surface. In addition, reaction with the epoxide resin is also desirable. The polyfunctional mercaptoester compounds meet both of these requirements in that the mercaptoester moiety provides a means of chelating iron cations and in addition is very reactive towards the epoxide group in the presence of an amine. The polyfunctional nature of this compound enables it to attach to the steel surface at more than one site and provides a group which can chemically attach to the resin. The dramatic improvement in bond durability supports such a hypothesis.
