Additional Experience Since Early

Since early 2006, after which time no more data were gathered for the 2006 NRC International Technologies report, additional use has been made of all four of the EDTs reviewed in that report. Summarized below and described in greater detail under each of the technology-specific sections of this chapter is the experience gained from these more recent deployments. [Pg.48]

Since these early experiments, a great deal of additional information about the existence and properties of free-radical intermediates has been developed. In this chapter, we will discuss the structure of free radicals and some of the special properties associated with free radicals. We will also discuss some of the key chemical reactions in which free-radical intermediates are involved. [Pg.664]

Whereas these early experiments provided interesting data, no mechanism was developed to explain the explosion phenomenon. In fact, since the 1950s there has been little interest in conducting further studies in dissolver tanks because the addition of efficient steam-shatter jets at the smelt entrance has effectively eliminated explosions in this section of the process. Further studies were directed to the explosions which took place within the recovery boiler as a result of water contacting the smelt on the furnace floor. [Pg.145]

Antidepressants. In the early 1980s, the recognition that depression is a frequent comorbid feature of BN coupled with the observation that appetite changes are a common feature of depression led researchers to evaluate antidepressant treatment for BN. Since that time, a series of controlled studies have demonstrated efficacy for a wide assortment of antidepressants including the TCAs imipramine (Tofranil) and desipramine (Norpramin), the MAOl phenelzine (Nardil), the SSRl fluoxetine (Prozac), and the atypical antidepressants trazodone (Desyrel) and bupropion (Wellbutrin). Overall, approximately two-thirds of antidepressant-treated patients with bulimia experience symptomatic improvement while nearly one-third achieves complete remission of binging and purging. In addition, the improvement in the symptoms of BN is not dependent on the presence of comorbid depression. [Pg.221]

Due to the very poor performance of the Insects in the field, as had been noted in the alder experiment above, the test trees were reloaded with an average of 8.0 1 1.0 (S.E.) additional colonies of tent caterpillars, obtained from alder, since none were available from willow, on May 22. These additional colonies were mainly in the 4th and early 5th Instar, whereas the original larvae hatched on the trees were still mainly in the third Instar. Thus, at the time of reload, the trees experienced a large... [Pg.59]

Grape juice was fermented inadvertently into wine by natural yeast. To nomadic tribes, especially, it was welcome since it had flavor reminiscent of the fresh fruit or juice. In addition it could be stored and transported easily and remained drinkable from season to season. Eventually wine found its place as an article of commerce with necessary quality requirements. Not until the time of Louis Pasteur did the scientific foundation of winemaking become established and did enology become the science of wine. Since the early Pasteur experiments and discoveries winemaking has developed from a haphazard, ill understood, and risky... [Pg.123]

Since the early work of Kissinger (Ref 2) much work has gone into the improvement of the study of the kinetics of decompn. Table 5 lists the data of Rogers (Ref 45), and additional values can be found in Vol 7, K11, Equation (1) suggests that one should be able to vary the size of the shape at will, whereas in our experience the assumption of a size independent decompn rate is not justified. Most expls decomp by an autocatalytic mechanism, particularly at the upper temp limits so that in these cases thermo-analytically obtained kinetic data are not trustworthy... [Pg.251]
