The standards for LDS also specify a minimum bottom slope of 2% and require the installation of a leak detection sump of appropriate size to allow the daily monitoring of liquid levels or inflow rates in the LDS. Specifically, the sump should be designed to detect a top liner leakage rate in the range of action leakage rate (ALR) specified in the leak detection rule. [Pg.1098]

Droplets of the stripping phase generally range from 80 to 800 pm in diameter, that is, they are larger than the 0.03 pm wide pore in the hydrophobic support. Therefore the leakage of the stripping phase into the feed is prevented. Both phases are continuously circulated via the action of independent peristaltic pumps. There is a constant supply of the LM components, and therefore desorption/release of the membrane phase of the SLM from the hydrophobic support pores is lowered.
