Fuchsine, acid

Echt-rot, n. fast red. -sMurefuchsiQt n. fast acid fuchsine. -scbwarz, n. fast black. 

Polarographic maxima. Current-voltage curves obtained with the dropping mercury cathode frequently exhibit pronounced maxima, which are reproducible and which can be usually eliminated by the addition of certain appropriate maximum suppressors . These maxima vary in shape from sharp peaks to rounded humps, which gradually decrease to the normal diffusion-current curve as the applied voltage is increased. A typical example is shown in Fig. 16.3. Curve A is that for copper ions in 0.1 M potassium hydrogencitrate solution, and curve B is the same polarogram in the presence of 0.005 per cent acid fuchsine solution.

Recently Heremans demonstrated mucopolysaccharides in urine after zone electrophoresis by means of an Alcian blue-acid fuchsin staining technique (HI).3 Applied in our laboratory to a curtain after a run of serum, two fractions, references -)- 86.30 and - - 86.12, were demonstrated but do not seem to be regular components of serum, at least not in that high concentration (Fig. 62c). 

A similar test involves immersing the moulding in an acid fuchsin stain solution, followed by rinsing under tap water, when the degree of uniformity in treatment can be established by a visual examination of the intensity of the stain and by comparison with a standard that has been treated to a known level.

The rosaniline dye first obtained was probably a mixture of salts of both para-rosaniline and rosaniline. The names given to it at the beginning, viz., fuchsin and magenta, are still used. Acid fuchsin, a common form of the dye, is a mixture of the sodium salts of the mono-and di-sulphonic acid derivatives of para-rosaniline and rosaniline.
