Acetophenones palladium catalysis

An interesting reaction between the bis phenyl iodonium triflate of acetylene and the silyl enol ether of acetophenone afforded an allene (PhCOCH=C=C=CHCOPh, 84%) [6], Also, alkynyl iodonium tosylates and carbon monoxide in methanol or ethanol, with palladium catalysis, furnished alkyne carboxylates [53]. 

Very few examples of the oxidation of olefins to ketones in ionic liquids have been reported. In one case, [C4Ciim][BF4] or [C4Ciim][PF6] were used in the palladium-catalysed oxidation of styrene to acetophenone with H2O2 as oxidant, however the concept of biphasic catalysis was not exploited and no attempts were made to recycle the catalyst.[131 The ionic liquid serves the purpose of a co-catalyst rather than that of a reaction medium. 

Activated alkanes, such as cyclohexanone, acetone, and aliphatic nitro compounds, can react with carbon dioxide even without metal catalysis. A typical example is the phenolate-catalyzed reaction of acetophenone with C02 to the corresponding carbon add. A catalytic conversion of the non-activated methane with C02 to give acetic acid was reported by Fujiwara and co-workers [72], The reaction was carried out in the presence of palladium and copper acetate and also stoichiometric amounts of the oxidant K2S208. 

Chiral Phenanthrolines in Asymmetric Catalysis.
