Picer and Picer [357] evaluated the application ofXAD-2, XAD-4, and Tenax macroreticular resins for concentrations of chlorinated insecticides and polychlorinated biphenyls in seawater prior to analysis by electron capture gas chromatography. The solvents that were used eluted not only the chlorinated hydrocarbons of interest but also other electron capture sensitive materials, so that eluates had to be purified. The eluates from the Tenax column were combined and the non-polar phase was separated from the polar phase in a glass separating funnel. Then the polar phase was extracted twice with n-pentane. The -pentane extract was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, concentrated to 1 ml and cleaned on an alumina column using a modification of the method described by Holden and Marsden. The eluates were placed on a silica gel column for the separation of PCBs from DDT, its metabolites, and dieldrin using a procedure described by Snyder and Reinert [359] and Picer and Abel [360].

A Fortran program (rglib.f and rgin-terp.f) used in connection with CHEMKIN-II that incorporates several real-gas equations of state into kinetic and thermodynamic calculations. The real-gas equations of state provided include the van der Waals, Redlich-Kwong, Soave, Peng-Robinson, Becker-Kistiakowsky-Wilson, and Nobel-Abel. 

The critical discovery that acetyl phosphate is generated and the information gained from several studies of each of the components of GR allowed an enzyme mechanism to be proposed (Arkowitz and Abeles 1991). However, with the current knowledge that one of the subunits of protein B also contains selenium, further work is needed to characterize the intermediates of the reaction and to explain the role of an additional selenocysteine residue. Whether this additional selenocysteine residue in protein B might serve as a direct reductant of the postulated thioselenide derivative of selenoprotein A and possibly serve as a link to the Trx-TrxR system is unknown. It should also be noted that the selenium-limited cultures that were initially studied during analysis of selenoprotein A (Turner and Stadtman 1973) apparently contained active fractions of proteins B and C, suggesting the role for selenium in protein B may not prove to be absolutely necessary for enzyme catalysis. 

The complexity and volume of. available diffraction data requires that other than manual tediniques be used to match unknown to known spectra. Available computer programs have indeed simplified the problem of identifying an unknown substance (Refs 9,15,16,21 22). The work of Abel and Kemmey (Ref 16) in this area is worthy of note. Data taken from this report is presented as Table 4. The authors use values of 26 (<90°) to identify phase location instead of values of d in A. Major computer programs of this type endeavor to identify the crystal structure of an. unknown and cite a general factor of certainty to support the credibility of the analysis interpretation...
