Abdominal injuries

Visceral pain involves injury to nerves on internal organs (e.g., intestines or liver) and can present as diffuse, poorly differentiated, and often referred pain. Acute pain should be treated aggressively, even before the diagnosis is established, except in conditions of head or abdominal injury where pain may assist in the differential diagnosis. [Pg.490]

This patient had severe abdominal injuries following a traumatic accident, following which his spleen was removed. [Pg.122]

Abdomen Unexplained hypotension may be the result of an internal hemorrhage. Peritoneal lavage, ultrasound, and abdominal CT may be necessary to rule out injury. Frequent reassessment is necessary as signs of abdominal injury change with time. Avoid pelvic manipulation if possible due to the potential for internal hemorrhage. [Pg.244]

If you have a reasonable basis to believe that information describing the privacy concern case may be personally identifiable even though the employee s name has been omitted, use discretion in describing the injury or illness on both the OSHA 300 and 301 forms. Enter enough information to identify the cause of the incident and the general severity of the injury or illness, but do not include details of an intimate or private nature. For example, a sexual assault case could be described as injury from assardt, or an injury to a reproductive organ could be described as lower abdominal injury. ... [Pg.294]

Evaluating a child vdio has sustained abdominal injury is daily practice in a department of pediatric radiology. In this chapter, emphasis will be put on pediatric particularities of renal injuries. Obviously, renal trauma cannot be separated from associated traumatic lesions. This is especially true in organizing the imaging strategy. [Pg.461]

Although not an issue discussed in the small amount of literature available, it is worth pa)fing further consideration to the exact mechanism of primary abdominal injury. It occurs most frequently at density interfaces, which, are usually tissue planes. The blast wave creates a shear force at this point, at which a significant amount of kinetic energy is dumped. The logical conclusion is that in an attack in a confined space, resulting in a complex wave, there is potential for multiple shear forces to be generated near-simultaneously as the... [Pg.95]

Furthermore, in addition to the perhaps self-evident penetrating abdominal injury, injury to four or more areas was also predictive of intra-abdominal injury. Hence, simply identifying which regions of the body are injured will allow rapid identification of those potentially requiring either ventilation or laparotomy. [Pg.100]

The force of the water stream may throw individuals violently to the ground or against nearby objects. It may be forceful enough to tear off clothing, cause fractures or theoretically blimt intra-abdominal injury, such as a splenic rupture. [Pg.394]

Casualties with injuries from water cannon use should be assessed and investigated as for other conventional injuries. Particular attention should be paid to the potential for significant eye injuries or blunt abdominal injury. [Pg.395]
