Abdominal compartment

Consider large-volume paracentesis if evidence of abdominal compartment syndrome is secondary to tense ascites... 

As a byproduct of work on cough CPR (Section 18.3.1.3 and Section 18.3.1.10), Rosborough found that using ventilation to increase intrathoracic pressure with simultaneous compression of the abdominal compartment maintained carotid artery flows similar to flows from standard CPR in dog experiments [36]. This model, based on a pure thoracic pump concept, has not been demonstrated to improve outcome in humans, and has been associated with pulmonary complications attributed to high airway pressures. 

A 48-year-old woman who had endoscopic injection of enbucrilate for variceal bleeding rapidly had portal and splenic vein emboli, causing intestinal ischemia secondary to abdominal compartment syndrome, with raised intra-abdominal pressure [30 ]. There were no enbucrilate emboli in the mesenteric arteries. 

The air pump was first inflated to clear secretion and rule out any obstruction of the tube that may interfere with pressure transmission. Upward pressure while inflating the air pump indicated cases of mbe obstruction or intraesophageal placement. When an NGT was placed in the stomach, the changes in pressure upon air inflation were insignificant (< 2 cmH20) due to high compliance of the abdominal compartment (Fig. 2A). 

A variety of studies using RF EMRI have been carried out on living mice. These include (i) oximetry in tumour tissues and the response to perfluorocarbons for their potential use in radiotherapy, (ii) the detection of hydroxyl radicals (by spin trapping) in y-irradiated tumours, (iii) the distribution of nitroxyl radicals with distinct pharmacological abdominal compartment affinities and (iv) quantitative measurement of the viscosity of a non-vascular compartment.
