Blends were produced in a small Banbury mixer. About 3 lb of dry-blended material was added to the Banbury. After the flux point, blends were run for two more minutes and dumped. Conditions were speed No. 2, 30 psi on the ram, and a dump temperature of 310°F. Test specimens were molded on a 3-oz Van Dorn injection-molding machine front, middle, and rear zones were 500, 485, and 470°F, respectively. The mold temperature was 160°F the molding cycle was typical for ABS. Test methods were ASTM Standard Procedures. [Pg.440]

Another important application area is the non-destructive defectoscopy of electronic components. Fig.2a shows an X-ray shadow image of a SMC LED. Examination of oven-aged samples has demonstrated that substantial degradation is limited to the outer surface (34), ie, the oxidation process is diffusion limited. Consistent with this conclusion is the observation that oxidation rates are dependent on sample thickness (32). AppHcation of an adhesion-promoting paint before metal spraying improves the coating. Color-coded paints, which indicate compatibiHty with specific plastics, can be appHed at 20 times the rate of grit blasting, typically at 0.025-mm dry film thickness. The main test and control method is cross-hatch adhesion.
