Manual and Magnetic Starters Manual motor starters are operated by hand. The simplest type of manual starter is a snap switch with no overload protection, used only for motors of 1,492 kW (2 hp) and smaller, usually single-phase motors with integral overload protection. 

A snap joint is economical in two respects it allows the structural member to be molded simultaneously with the molded product, and it allows rationalizing the assembly, compared with such other joining processes as screws. Table 3-4 provides a comparison of its advantages and disadvantages. Some examples of the various types and their design considerations are shown in Figs. 3-23 to 3-25. 

A snap can be characterized by the geometry of its spring component. The most common snaps are the cantilever type, the hollow-cylinder type (as in the lids of pill bottles) and the distortion type (Fig. 4-15). These snaps include those in any shape that is deformed or deflected to pass over interference. The shapes of the mating parts in a hollow cylinder snap is the same, but the shapes of the mating parts in a distortion snap are different, by definition. These classifications are rather nominal, because the cantilever category is used loosely to include any leaf-spring components, and the cylinder type is used also to include noncircular section tubes.

This book marks the conclusion of this strong period of development and is therefore a milestone in measurement science. As such, the field already has a history. But as history makes no sense without a future, the last Chapter of this book deals with expected further developments in terms of organization and needs. Between history and future the book presents, as a snap shot, the application of standards in analytical chemistry. The perspective of Quality Assurance is never forgotten. 

And the Press asks Mark, almost with a snap. 

Three dimensional particle-in-cell simulation performed with the numerical code CALDER [77] reveals that the unprecedented efficiency of this accelerator was due to the achievement of a physical regime in which multiple electron bunches are accelerated in the gas-jet plasma during the action of each laser shot. An early problem was that the blowing process as originally developed produced rounded bases, and so the bottles could not be stacked upright on shelves. The rest of the papers included in the volume provide a snap shot of the field at the time of the symposium. The papers by Ferraro, Sternberg, Schrecken-bach, and Webb address new methodologies to calculate NMR chemical shifts. The papers by Kuroki, Kurosu, Sakurai, and Facelli present novel calculations of chemical shifts in molecular systems of biological interest. The contributions by McDermott, Case, and Martin report important advances in the understanding of chemical shifts, and the contribution from de Dios emphasizes the importance of the local geometry on the determination of the NMR chemical shifts. The modeling of chemical shifts in inorganic compounds is discussed in detail in the contributions from Buhl, Moore, Wasylishen, Henry, Tossell, Alam, and Jameson (Chapter 23).

There are very special resilient-seated cryogenic SRVs on the market (some initially developed for NASA), bubble tight up to 98% of set pressure, with a snap opening at 101% of set pressure and adjustable blowdowns between 3% and 25%. If you do not want to spend the money for these very special valves, then at least consider a soft-seated relief valve with a snap action.
