Young anomaly

In mice treated with thalidomide there was a marked reduction in litter size (167). The young had congenital anomalies, such as cleft lip, microphthalmia and malformation of the tail, in a frequency of 5-10%. 

During the weathering process, elements can disperse from source mineralisation by a variety of chemical processes. For reasons discussed below, electrochemical processes are increasingly thought to be the primary transport mechanism in environments of thick, young, exotic (i.e., transported) overburden. They are also likely to operate in other environments but their dominance as a transport mechanism is less certain. This chapter presents the principles behind electrochemical masj transport and discusses the role of natural geoelectrochemical processes in the formation of selective leach and conventional geochemical soil anomalies. 

Radioactive Strontium. In the Techa River cohort, individuals who were exposed to high levels of radiostrontium as teenagers had a higher frequency of stable transformations than those who were adults at the time (Bauchinger et al. 1998) the differences were attributed to increased skeletal incorporation of radiostrontium in the young. The progeny of the exposed cohort showed an elevated incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes (mortality from developmental anomalies, chromosomal anomalies, labor...
