Xanax - Alprazolam

Trade names of some benzodiazepines are Ativan (lorazepam), Dalmane (flurazepam), Halcion (triazolam), Klonopin (clonazepam). Librium (chlordiazepoxide), Restoril (temazepam), Serax (oxazepam). Valium (diazepam). Versed (midazolam), and Xanax (alprazolam). Some street names include benzos, downers, and goofballs. The date rape drug Rohypnol (flunitrazepam) has its own group of names, including forget-me pill, Mexican valium, mind erasers, R2, roches, roofies, rope, and rophies (Figure 7.2). Except for Rohypnol , which cannot be sold in the United States, the benzodiazepines are listed as Schedule IV drugs.

Although the shorter-acting BZs such as Xanax (alprazolam) and Halcion (triazolam) seem to be the most toxic and most prone to cause dependence, any BZ can cause these untoward effects, including the commonly used Klonopin (clonazepam) and Ativan (lorazepam). Overall, the BZs and many related medications used to treat anxiety and insomnia are potentially very brain disabling and spellbinding, and entail much graver risks than commonly recognized by health care providers and their patients. 

Xanax Alprazolam (Xanax) is an antianxiety and antipanic agent. Several of the side effects include episodes of violent and aggressive behavior, seizures, delirium, and other withdrawal reactions. 

Benzodiazepines A class of drugs that is most commonly used both for anxiety (nervousness) and as a sedative (generally used to treat sleep problems). When used in the treatment of anxiety, many counselors warn that the medication may create a type of euphoria or false sense of progress that can impede improvement. It is always a good idea to ask the client to contract for services prior to starting this class of medications. Benzodiazepine medications are used to decrease anxiety, panic and night terrors for example Ativan (lorazepam), Clonopin (clonazepam). Librium (chlor-diazepoxide). Valium (diazepam), and Xanax (alprazolam). The benzodiazepine that is generally used to treat sleep problems is Dalmane (flurazepam).
