Writing the introduction

In university writing you will be expected to provide some kind of introduction to your assignment. It may seem strange to tackle the introduction at such a late stage. The reason for including it here is that in practice you can only finalize the introduction once you have written the whole assignment 

Advice on university writing always stresses the importance of the introduction, and sometimes the introduction is prescribed quite specifically. For example, the following is a common formula  

However, as we illustrated in Chapter 3, this formula only applies in some cases. In practice there are many different ways of introducing and concluding a piece of work, depending on the subject, the task and the length of your assignment. On the whole, the longer the work, the longer the introduction. 

Although it is difficult to lay down rules as to what exactly the introduction should look like, you will be able to work out what is needed in your

The book Biochemical Individuality, authored by the late worldrenowned biochemist Roger Williams, Ph.D., first published in 1956, fulfills all of these characteristics. It is a book that should be on the bookshelf of all students and practitioners of modern molecular medicine. It is with great admiration and respect that I have the privilege of writing the introduction to the republication of this timeless work. 

In chapters 3-5, we suggested that you begin Writing on Your Own by reviewing the targeted section (i.e., Methods, Results, and Discussion) in each of the articles that you collected during your literature search. To prepare to write the Introduction, however, we recommend that you review each article in its entirety, in order to summarize the major findings of each work. 

Consider the importance of your research area, more generally, and your own research, more specifically. What background information will your audience need to grasp the importance of this project Identify a few key references that you could include in your Introduction. List the key objectives of your research that are addressed in the poster. Then write the Introduction to your poster. 

The last step in the preparation of these surveys is writing the introduction it reviews the scope of the survey, with particular mention of its limitations and omissions, and gives a list of the source materials checked. 

Consider writing the introduction after you have completed the rest of the essay.
