Writing narration

Forman s life-writings narrate his first forty years, the period for which few papers survive. During these years Forman outfitted himself with the skills and attitudes with which he was equipped when he settled in London in 1591 and embarked on his career as a notorious astrologer-physician. In order to tell the story of Forman s childhood thirst for knowledge, ill-fated possession of books, and study of the occult, I first need to establish the dates and contents of each of the six texts which Forman devoted solely to his own life. 

On many documentary projects, the film s producer and/or director is also the writer (meaning the individual responsible for story and structure, regardless of whether there is also narration), and in that role also writes narration. At other times, a person identified as the writer may be involved in the project through development, production, and editing, and will therefore take primary responsibility for narration. It s also not uncommon for an editor to rough out pieces of narration as he or she works, which will then be polished in collaboration with the film s writer(s). 

If you write narration that says. Bom in 1934, she was 18 when she met Mark, there are viewers who will be so distracted trying to figure out the year she met Mark (1952) that they ll momentarily lose track of your story. Whether it s calculating profits or age or elapsed time. 

Holly, the narrator, writes in a note, Ayesha was a great chemist indeed, chemistry appears to have been her only amusement and occupation. One of the caves was fitted up as a laboratory, and, although her appliances were necessarily rude, the results that she attained, as will become clear in the course of this narrative, were sufficiently surprising (Haggard 1887, 235).

Have I addressed both my purpose and my readers needs by selecting appropriate strategies of development for my essay (For example, would it be better to write an essay primarily developed with examples illustrating the community s need for a new hospital or should you present a more formal argument that also rebuffs objections to the project Should you narrate the story of your accident or analyze its effects on your family )...

The teaching process will be concluded by asking each of the students to narrate the story, deduce the pertinent thermodynamic relations from it and write them down on the blackboard. This will show how much the students become familiar with them. 

The cinema is still a form of graphic art. Through its mediation, I write in pictures.. .. I show what others tell. In Orphee, for example, I do not narrate the passing through mirrors I show it, and in some manner, I prove it. 

In the short film, the notion that you are watching a documentary is even more critical than in the long film. Consequently, the deployment of journalistic techniques, from camera style to on or off-air narration, is critical. In fact, the first narrative responsibility of the writer is to create at least the illusion that what we are watching are real people at real work or leisure. A candid quality, even the sense of "eavesdropping," should inform the writing and the style of performance. This "spontaneity" immediately establishes veracity and seriousness, upon which the writer-director will draw. What is being captured is not so much an enactment as the real thing. This is the central style of the docudrama. It is the primary and foremost key to the success of the docudrama. 

After writing my essay on Bartleby I have found a deeper meaning to the book. I found myself more and more interested in the narrator of the story. His reactions to Bartleby intrigue me. Why could he not take positive steps in dealing with him I think the story is more about the narrator than I previously thought... My feeling is that the narrator almost felt Bartleby s despair but was too afraid to go the next step and address the issue.
